  • The Lakes from Rigg Lane

Birk Bank Quarry, Clougha

This is a short, easy walk from Rigg Lane Car park.  Just stroll up Rigg Lane and head up the track at Rushy Lee.  Here you’ll get onto Clougha Access Land and be able to stroll through the old quarries at Birk Bank.  It’s amazing to think how the land was worked from potentially the 1580’s.  Luckily nature is taking back the land and the scars of quarrying merely add to its character.

Dogs are not allowed on many parts of Clougha Access Land and certainly Birk Bank Quarry has a sign advising the same.
