Route description
Time writes (13/07/2020): Writing this nearly 10 years later, and looking over the pictures, makes me smile – because I distinctly remember the kids absolutely hating this walk. It was one of those ‘we want our X-box days’.
However, sulks and all, we trundled on – and finished what I thought, was a lovely walk around Whitewell. Another thing I should add is that I have lost the original map and GPX, so some the new map is estimated, but should be pretty accurate I hope. In any case, this map should work perfectly well.
The route takes in the old quarries before walking down to the Inn at Whitewell. There’s some road walking, following the River Hodder downstream until coming off onto a track near ‘Ing Wood’.
The route then takes you along by Lower, Middle and Higher Lees as you walk along the old Roman Road before reaching Cow Ark. The road then climbs a little as you pass Radholme Laund, where the Queen visited in 2006.
